Hungarian Goulash is an amazingly delicious stew that will instantly bring you the loving vibes of your Hungarian energy grandmother. It has been served across generations for a reason!

Ingredients:
  • 2 pounds of delicious beef chuck roast, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 fresh onions, chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons sweet Hungarian paprika
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) diced tomatoes
  • 3 carrots, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 3 potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • a lovely Dutch oven (hint: we sell them)
Instructions:
  1. Preheat your regular oven to 325°F.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat.
  3. Add those beautiful beef cubes and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Mmmm.
  4. Now, remove the beef from the Dutch oven with a slotted spoon and set it aside.
  5. Add the fresh onions to the Dutch oven and cook until softened for about 5 minutes.
  6. Add the garlic, paprika, caraway seeds, thyme, and bay leaves to the Dutch oven and stir to combine it into a beautiful flavor city. Mmmm.
  7. Return the delicious beef to the Dutch oven and stir to coat it with the yummy spice mixture.
  8. Pour the beef broth and diced tomatoes into it, and bring the entire mixture to a simmer.
  9. Cover the beautiful Dutch oven with a lid and place it in the oven.
  10. Cook in the oven for 1 and 1/2 hours. Mmmm!
  11. Add the carrots and potatoes to the Dutch oven, and season with salt and black pepper to taste. Now watch it turn into a goulash!
  12. Put the lid on the Dutch oven and put it back in the oven.
  13. Cook the goulash for an additional 45 minutes, or until the vegetables are tender and the meat is very tender.
  14. Remove the Dutch oven from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  15. Serve the delicious goulash with some crusty bread, dumplings, or egg noodles on the side.
